Vision

It's interesting how one's "vision" of a completed work can change. Sometimes it may be a result of an inability to fully execute the vision in one's mind. Other times it may be due to the power of the image, and how the painting changes one's thinking. Generally, I spend about 40 hours on each painting. I begin with a pencil drawing, and then create a monochromatic underpainting using burnt umber and white. Finally, I will add color through a translucent to transparent glazing process. The attached image is at the completion of the underpainting stage. I will describe how my vision for this piece has changed over time.
